Sky Alton Writer, Gryffindor Time to Dream He strolled across the field, watching the grass waving in the wind. Sunlight glinted off the white cottage just a little way ahead. A swarm of shimmering butterflies passed over him like a cloud shadow, a few dropping down to brush his face with their wings. No matter how fast he walked, the house never seeming to get any closer. He sped up and laughed as the dog gambled around his feet, then leapt into the air to chase the clouds that had been butterflies. His hand was on the knob of the cottage door. It was time to sleep. Sky Alton Writer, Gryffindor The Distance of Dreams I’ve been trying to rediscover the pride and wonder in my dreams for the future. I realised at the end of my university degrees that the pressure and expectation I’d placed on myself had taken the savour out of reaching milestones. Though it was my dream to graduate with top class honours, by the time it happened I struggled to find satisfaction. I had lost sight of the magic and turned hopes into requirements. If a dream of yours becomes reality, take a moment to remind yourself that once it seemed like just a dream. Now, for the next one. Gail Allen Editor The field is greener than any I remember having seen before. It is beautiful and I let myself fall onto my back, letting the sun's kisses warm my skin. Suddenly I hear the sound of someone running towards me and without knowing how, I know who is coming. Her dark eyes shine as she reaches me and she dances excitedly around me. I reach up to stroke her dark fur and breathe in the smell I know so well. I know she is dead... but in dreams she can still be with me. In dreams I can still see her. Gail Allen Editor "All aboard!" the sound of the whistle rang across the platform and the doors closed with a dull thud. Sarah felt inside her pocket once more, assuring herself she still had the parcel there that her mother had given her. The train started moving and she looked out the window as they moved out from the platform, leaving their parents behind, waving and smiling. Then they were gone and a new landscape appeared. A new beginning at a whole new school where they would learn so much and make friendships that would last a lifetime. The beginning of a dream. Kendra Givens Writer, Ravenclaw She sat idle for days, thinking, hoping, and praying. Then, one morning, she forced herself up off the couch, got dressed in her nicest suit, and did her hair and makeup better than she’d ever done it before. Nervous as ever, she made herself put one foot in front of the other and walked half a mile to the train station. “Round trip ticket to the city, please,'' she told the cashier. She was tired of waiting for something to happen to her; it was time for her to take her life into her own hands. Today was her day. February Fortescue Writer, Slytherin Dreams we have in the night are such strange things. We can run from tornadoes or fly through the clouds, our hearts racing all the while. We become lost in a house or encounter wild animals. Some dreams make absolutely no sense on the surface, while others seem to be a replay of the day's events, as if we are storing those events for future recall. When we awaken, we may remember a dream or we may not, with the remembering seeming to be connected to the emotions the dream created, or how soon we awakened after having the dream. February Fortescue Writer, Slytherin I often wonder about the meanings behind many of my dreams. Many books have been written, and a person can always go online and look up the general interpretation behind any symbol, and this can often be very helpful, but at the same time dreams and symbols can be very individualist and directly connected to one person's experience and personality. I once had the same dream, with the same theme but many variations, over a twenty year time span, and it took someone who really knew me to explain what that dream meant, but once he did, the dream ended. Maxim Trevelyan Writer, Ravenclaw Just Like Daddy “Row, row, row your boat, sneaking up the stream. Lock and load in tactics mode, United States marines,” Johnny sang, skipping around the playground. The 6-year-old didn’t hear the adult approach over the delighted screams of other kids until the adult was right by him. “What are you singing Johnny?” she asked, sitting down on a miniature tree stump. “A song daddy taught me,” Johnny replied, giving her a gap-toothed grin and repeated the small phrase a few times again. “My daddy is a hero,” Johnny said to Miss Larson. “I wanna be just like him when I grow up.” Maxim Trevelyan Writer, Ravenclaw Cotton Candy
“Oh, can we?” Sophia begged and turned on her puppy eyes, so how could I say no to such a look? I nodded and Sophia squealed, running to the man in a red and white striped shirt. An hour later, my husband returned home from work. “What did you do?” Kevin asked me, eyeing Sophia. She was currently making circles around the living room, following our 6-month-old kitten. “Told her dreams tasted like cotton candy,” I explained, grinning. “Naturally we had to get some.” Being an aunt was awesome. You get to have all the fun, but without the consequences.
