February is the shortest month of the year, but still, it was wrought with many interesting or important events in Harry Potter history.

We start out February history on the 2nd. In 1994, this was the day when Hermione Granger told Professor McGonagall about Harry’s Firebolt. When the professor took it away, they boys got really angry with her. This was the cause for temporary rift in the Golden Trio, which did leave Hermione with enough time to help Hagrid with Buckbeak’s defense.

In the same year, but a day later, Remus Lupin privately teaches Harry more about the Dementors and Professors McGonagall and Flitwick return Harry’s Firebolt. Later that night, Scabbers disappeared and is thought to have been eaten by Crookshanks, driving an even bigger wedge between Ron and Hermione.

The 5th February, in 1994, is the day that Harry Potter sees, or rather notices, Ravenclaw’s Seeker, Cho Chang for the first time, bringing on a crush that would last for years. During the night, Sirius Black tries to kill Peter Pettigrew in the Gryffindor Common Room, with Ron Weasley being mistaken as his primary target.

The Fat Lady is restored on 6th February and returns as the gatekeeper of the Gryffindor Common Room. She is kept company by the security trolls. Professor Flitwick also teaches Hogwarts’ front doors on how to recognize Sirius Black.

The 12th February was a semi-important day in Quidditch history since in 1883, The Daily Prophet publishes an article titled "Bring Back Our Baskets!", which signalized discontent about the introduction of hoops in Quidditch. In 1992, Gilderoy Lockhart’s autobiography, Magical Me takes first place in The Daily Prophet’s bestsellers list.

Valentine’s Day is wrought with unusual occurrences in Harry Potter. In 1993, Ginny Weasley sends Harry Potter a singing Valentine through Gilderoy’s service. Later that day, he observes another one of Tom Riddle’s memories through the secret diary. In 1996, Harry goes on a date with Cho Chang to Madam Puddifoot’s Tea Shop. He later gives a very popular interview to Rita Skeeter, which is published in The Quibbler.

On 19th February, love is still in the air as in 1996, Harry asks Hermione about her opinion on his date with Cho, while a year later, his thoughts are more focused on Draco Malfoy as Harry keeps checking his whereabouts on the Marauder’s Map. The 24th February is our last known date with the second task of the Triwizard Tournament being held on that day in 1995.

Although not sure of the exact date, Harry Potter viewed Hagrid’s capture by Tom Riddle in The Dark Lord’s diary, which was the reason for Hagrid’s expulsion from Hogwarts.

We will end the article with famous birthdays. Arthur Weasley was born on February 6th, Luna Lovegood on February 13th, while perhaps the most famous magizoologist, Newt Scamander was born on February 24th.
