Sometimes, however, one makes a gamble so great that Lady Luck runs away scared. Shiloh Adlar Writer, Ravenclaw Lady Luck is the name they give to that spirit of gambling that pays off. Sometimes, however, one makes a gamble so great that Lady Luck runs away scared. We are all alone on this one, pal. But that does not mean we can’t pull her back in by our side when the game begins to smooth out and she sees that there was nothing to be afraid of at all. We are keeping our cards in check, inviting her in as she peers around the bushes curious as to all the fuss.
It had been a long day, and I was walking home from school exhausted with the stress of telling my father that I failed yet another test, got into a fight at lunch, no doubt he already knew of that one, and somehow still had my lunch money stolen by the boys the school let get away with it, complaining that it was my fault to begin with. I opened the door ready for the shouting but none came. Maybe he was still out at the casino doing what he does worst. My father had gambled most of our money away after my mother passed on, some sort of coping mechanism I suppose, but it certainly did not help matters when the bill collectors came calling. The debt was piling up, and though I was still only a kid and should not have to deal with such things, it was up to me to be the adult and make sure all the bills were paid on time, when they could be paid on time. We would go some days without much to eat because there simply were no groceries in the house, although he still found a way to get around that when he went to the bar. I went to my room, threw down my backpack and logged onto my computer, ready to escape my reality and enter a much better world of a popular massive online role playing game. It was my one vice to get me through everything, and in that world, I could be whoever I wanted to be, do whatever I wanted to do. My screen lit up saying there were new posts on the message boards so I went to look. The game developers were hosting some sort of competition and those who could find the secret room and defeat the boss behind the doors would win a large sum of money. Looking at all of the zeros attached behind it made me think it was some sort of joke, but there it was in blue by a game moderator themselves. It had to be real. I logged into the game and all of trade chat was going crazy over this new contest. The odds were stacked against me as I rarely grouped up with anyone, and from the sounds of it, it would be a group quest. I had no time to deal with the elitists of the game, nor did I want to, so I set out to begin finding the clues where I could. Many of the gamers had a head start, so it was easy to follow in their footsteps as leaks became apparent on the message boards over the days that went by. I went to school then came home and hopped back on the game. There was no time to sleep, only time to search and hunt. A week passed by and then two weeks, and I fell aside very quickly realizing that someone had finally found the secret room. To be expected, though, they could not solo the final boss. Others joined in at one point as they began finding the place as well, none of them able to defeat the monster behind the doors even working together. I kept asking myself what sort of boss this was, but then one day, I found the door myself. I led my character into the room and saw the boss before me. However, what should have been a boss looked like a cute little puff creature. I thought perhaps I had the wrong area, but there my screen flashed saying I had found it. Readying my weapons, I moved my character closer to the little critter and decided to pet it. It did a sort of cooing in my hands before dissipating in front of me. I wondered what I had done wrong, but in its place was left a small blue button. I decided to press it, and when I did, my screen flashed again. WINNER! WINNER! CONGRATULATIONS! YOU HAVE WON! Moments later I received a message through my account on the forums from one of the game developers congratulating me on my success. I was very confused at the result and mentioned as such. The game developer told me that Lady Luck must have found her way to my side because I entered the room at the right time and looked for the one action they were hoping for, kindness.
